Bear With Me

Growing up in Singapore, Suzy — the iconic mascot of the Cerebral Palsy Alliance Singapore donation stands — was a familiar presence outside supermarkets and shopping centres. In her blue dress, bob haircut, sturdy shoes, and with that small orange bear by her side, she stood as a quiet symbol of empathy.
As donations shifted online, Suzy slowly disappeared from our streets. Yet I kept noticing her abroad in different forms — blonde hair here, different dress colours there — always unmistakably her. What lingered most for me, though, was the bear: modest, plush, and gently resting a paw over the donation box, as if offering comfort.
In reimagining this sculpture, I wondered: What if the bear took Suzy’s place? Could it hold the same warmth, memory, and perhaps create space for new rituals — saving, giving, or simply pausing?
Bear With Me is my tribute to Suzy and the quiet strength we seek in moments of change — a small gesture of care, resilience, and a reminder that everyone needs a leg up when life gets unbearable.
