Year 2025
In 2005, at the lowest point of my creative career, Royston Tan asked me to design the poster for his second feature, 4:30, heading to the 56th Berlin International Film Festival. Unlike 15, this film was quiet and contemplative, so I approached the poster like a contemporary book cover — intimate, ambiguous, and caught between hiding and emerging.
I re-enacted a key scene, pairing Futura with a yellow-green cross-processed tone that shaped the entire mood — a look Royston later colour-graded the whole film to match. When the posters were reportedly stolen off the streets in Berlin, it became the moment I stopped questioning my worth.
Two decades on, 4:30 remains my true beginning. This time, we created the “bootleg” tee that never existed — a small tribute to the film that lit the way, and the project that set everything in motion.
